Maybe you’ve seen Welcome to Samdal-ri advertised on Netflix but didn’t know if the show is worth watching.  In case you are on the fence, here are –

Five Reasons to Watch Welcome to Samdal-ri

Reason 1:  Ji Chang-wook

For anyone who is a Ji Chang-wook fan, watching Welcome to Samdal-ri is a no brainer.  As Cho Yong-pil, his humor and charm are on full display in this healing drama.   I’ll admit that this is only the second Ji Chang-wook drama I’ve watched but it will not be my last.  If you have never watched him in a show, you are in for a treat.  And while you’re at it, check out one of his most popular dramas ever, Healer – on Viki.

Reason 2:  Mr. Queen actress Shin Hye-sun

Shin Hye-sun is an actress known for playing quirky characters (Mr. Queen, See You in My 19th Life) so it’s nice to see her portray regular gal, Cho Sam-dal, who is just going through a difficult time in her life. Plus – she has great chemistry with Ji Chang-wook.  It’s easy to believe in their childhood friends, turned lovers, turned ex’s, turned lovers again relationship.

Reason 3:  If You Like Hometown Cha Cha Cha

If you watched Hometown Cha Cha Cha and have been looking for a show with that same – seaside, healing vibe – Welcome to Samdal-ri is it.  Quaint town:  check.  Quirky residents:  check.  Beautiful love story:  check.  Past tragedy to overcome:  check.  Also – epilogues worth sticking around for that provide insight into events of the past.

Reason 4:  The Setting of Jeju Island

Get ready for the incredible scenery of Jeju Island.  Gorgeous blue-green waters.  Rocky beaches.  Expansive vistas.  Watercolor sunsets.  It will be hard to not want to visit there after watching the show.  After getting to know the supporting cast comprising Sam-dal and Yong-pil’s family and friends, as well as the other residents of Samdal-ri – you’ll want to see all of them too.

Reason 5:  Welcome to Samdal-ri Ends Well

Welcome to Samdal-ri has a good ending.  It’s a little tough at times to watch the struggles Sam-dal and Jong-pil go through but it’s all worth it in the end.  Just keep your eye on that red ball of yarn.   (You’ll see what I mean after watching the show.)  Then check out my Welcome to Samdal-ri Review – where I gave it 4.6 sips!
