Welcome to KafeNook Cozy Time – Snow Day Musings. What to do on a day when it is -3 degrees outside and the internet is out? Here in Colorado, we can have some chilly days. This winter has been fairly mild so far, but the cold finally arrived. Even my dogs won’t stay outside very long. With these kinds of temperatures, the internet can be spotty. Thank goodness for cellular data or I would be spending my day cleaning the house. (Full disclosure: I did clean the bathrooms. It was time.)
After feeding the dogs, eating breakfast, and reviewing my morning Kdrama news, I kick off Drops. I’m having a hard time with the current topic of “describing things” in Korean. I got through “describing people” ok, but describing things is difficult. I find a lot of the phrases to be similar and get the answers wrong – a lot. My percentage of correct answers keeps going down and I am not picking up any new phrases. Today, I switch to a topic I have yet to complete – Kpop. Unfortunately, a lot of the images have changed since I last worked on the topic. As a result, I score low again. Sigh. On to the next thing.
Yoga and Korean Learning
I jump into my daily Yoga with Adriene workout which is part of her month long, beginning of the year series. This time via my phone – still no internet. I would hate to end my 2024 daily streak. I love Adriene’s free yoga workouts which I have been doing for years. She exudes positivity and always brightens my day.
Since I didn’t punish myself enough with Drops, it’s time for the final lesson in Talk to Me in Korean – Level 1. It’s exciting to be on the last lesson, but I’m not ready to move onto level 2. There is still a lot in the first level that hasn’t sunk in yet. I will be redoing level 1 before I move on. My hope is that I get through the first book faster this time and it will seem like more of a refresh. Plus – I’ll pick up the things I missed the first time.
Boy, do I wish I had my favorite hot drink today – a Starbucks Chai Tea Latte. But alas, it’s too cold to go to Starbucks.
I dictate a note on a blog post: KafeNook Cozy Time – Snow Day Musings. That seems like a good title.
Working to Kdrama Playlists
The internet is back. Time to do some work. Did I mention that my old company called last fall and asked if I could do some part time work? I have been doing that a few hours a week and today is one of my workdays. When I work, I like to play one of my Kdrama playlists in the background. I find the music relaxing while I’m working, and I get to listen to some of my favorites as well as recently added songs. Who knows, maybe my brain is absorbing Korean as I listen to the songs.
I have been watching the Kdrama Healer starring Park Min-young, who is tearing up the small screen in Marry My Husband, and Ji Chang-wook (known as Wookie to his fans), currently starring in Welcome to Samdal-ri. This is my first Wookie drama and will not be my last. He is amazing in it. So far, I really like the series – and the music. (Eternally Yours keeps running through my head.) I had dreams about Healer last night though where scary things happened involving dogs. (Maybe I’m not over A Good Day to Be a Dog yet?)
Because I’ve been trying to finish my review of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, I listen to that soundtrack and add individual songs from it to my playlists. I finally give up and create its own playlist. There are just too many good songs from the drama.
Lunch and Puppy Snuggles
Lunch is homemade potato and sausage soup (one of my husband’s specialties). Yum. Perfect for warming up the body on a cold day like this.
Not willing to face the cold by going out, my husband picks out a movie for us to watch. The puppies like to snuggle up on the couch with us on days like this. Or frankly any day for that matter. The heartwarming movie Bank of Dave turns out to be a nice way to pass the time.
Time to finish writing this post. I hear the snowblower running. (Thank you, children, for that great gift for your dad!) When my husband comes back inside, he says it’s really cold. Yep. That’s why I’ve stayed inside all day.
Activities for the Internet Challenged
Baah – just as I’m ready to post, the internet goes out – again. What to do? I guess those floors won’t clean themselves. Dinner? Leftover green enchiladas – which are even better on day 2.
After dinner, I sit down to read. My daughter recommended the book, Fourth Wing, by Rebecca Yarros. I’m about halfway through. It’s good – kind of a mash-up between Anne McCaffery’s Dragon Riders of Pern series and fill-in-the-blank young adult dystopian fiction. It’s hard for me to not compare it to the Pern novels, though, which is one of my favorite science fictions series ever.
Still no internet. Looks like I’ll be watching the latest episodes of Marry My Husband and Love Song for Illusion on my phone. Did I say how grateful I am for that unlimited cellular data?
